About Småländska Specimenfishing Championship
Since this is a local swedish competition, that takes place in the southeast swedish provinces of Småland and Öland, this site is basically all in the Swedish language.
However, since many of the competitors here enjoy fishing in other countries as well, and since people from other countries might be interested in what is happening here, we would like to offer some information in english as well.
Feel free to browse around, look and explore the wonders that lurk beneath the surface in southeastern Sweden.
Here's a basic glossary
Specimen fishing is the art of catching trophy sized fish.
To accomplish this, it's important to locate and fish in waters where the fish are big enough, and to use methods and tactics that's suited for the specie targetted. It's also important to fish for the different species at the specific time of year when the chance of catching a big specimen of that
particular specie is the greatest. This varies from specie to specie.
To become a successful specimen hunter requires good basic fishing skills, but it also takes a lot of knowledge of the habits and behaviour of different species. To be successful with multiple
species takes a lot of flexibility and timing. All of this combined makes specimen hunting one of the most demanding, challenging and interesting ways
to fish.
About Småländska Specimenfishing Championship
Småländska Specimenfishing Championship, or "Småländska" for short, is a local competition within the southeastern part of Sweden, in the provinces of Småland and Öland.
The object of the competition is to catch as many big specimens of as many different species as possible during a calender year. Points are given for the 20 biggest in each specie, with 20 for the top fish, 19 for the second largest, and so on. The points are summarized for each person and club. The person and club that has most points at the end of the year is the winner.
The competition is open for any person belonging to a club or team that fishes in the province. To compete, the club/team first needs to apply to the
competition arbiter.
Småländska Specimenfishing Championship has now existed for well over 10 years. The fish that has been caught in the competition would do well in any list of fish anywhere, so the competitors would have to be seen as Smålands, and Swedens, absolute top of fishermen.
Currently 13 teams are locked in battle over who can catch the most big fish of the 18 species that are targetted in the competition.
So, if you are going to these parts of the world, why not bring a rod, and see how you'd do in these waters?
